The Manchester OWL Syntax
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes a new syntax that can be used to write OWL ontologies, and fragments of OWL ontologies for presentation and editing purposes. The syntax, which is known as the Manchester OWL Syntax, was developed in response to a demand from a wide range of users, who do not have a Description Logic background, for a“less logician like” syntax. The Manchester OWL Syntax is derived from the OWL Abstract Syntax, but is less verbose and minimises the use of brackets. This means that it is quick and easy to read and write. The important features of the syntax are discussed, and a reference implementation of a Java based parser is described.

Manchester Syntax for OWL 1.1
The Manchester OWL syntax is a user-friendly syntax for OWL DL, fundamentally based on collecting all information about a particular class, property, or individual into a single construct, called a frame. The Manchester OWL syntax has been revised to be a syntax for OWL 1.1, involving adding the new OWL 1.1 description constructs and the new axioms allowed in OWL 1.1 ontologies.
متن کاملInfixOWL: An Idiomatic Interface for OWL
The Ontology Web Language (OWL) provides a powerful framework for describing the semantics and constraints of a particular domain described in RDF. Along with that power comes the burden of a learning curve that is often inherited by the tools used to manage OWL ontologies. The Manchester OWL syntax introduced an intuitive syntax for the presentation and editing of OWL ontologies that attempted...
متن کاملExamples: DOLCE and BFO in DL and Manchester syntax
The OWL versions of DOLCE (DOLCE-lite.owl from the DLP3971.zip file) and BFO (bfo-1.1.owl downloaded on 13-11-’09), respectively, have been loaded into Protégé 4.0 build 113, and by using “Save as... latex” exported to a DL rendering, whereas the Manchester syntax has been copied from its “Manchester syntax rendering” view in Protégé. I did not verify if the transformations are correct; so it c...
متن کاملTerp: Syntax for OWL-friendly SPARQL Queries
Web Ontology Language (OWL) [5] can be seen as an extension of Resource Description Framework (RDF). The primary exchange syntax for OWL is RDF/XML, and every OWL ontology can be represented as an RDF graph. But there is no standard query language specifically for OWL ontologies. The most commonly used Semantic Web query language is SPARQL [7], which is intended to be used for RDF. Roughly spea...
متن کاملIntegrating OWL and Rules: A Syntax Proposal for Nominal Schemas
This paper proposes an addition to OWL 2 syntax to incorporate nominal schemas, which is a new description-logic style extension of OWL 2 which was recently proposed, and which makes is possible to express “variable nominal classes” within axioms in an OWL 2 ontology. Nominal schemas make it possible to express DL-safe rules of arbitrary arity within the extended OWL paradigm, hence covering th...
